Habits of the mind and a trip to the city!

It’s been another eventful week in Year 5, we started the week learning all about Art Costa’s Habits of Mind. All 130 students and teachers worked together and applied the habit of ‘Working Interdependently’ to silently get into a large circle, in order of the birthdays in Year 5 from January to December. This was certainly a fun but challenging activity. Students then headed off in groups and participated in various activities to engage their minds in various habits of the mind.

On Thursday 6th March we embarked on a journey into the CBD to the Chinese DSC_6598Museum. Students experienced a great Kung Fu demonstration, walked the length of the Millennium Chinese Dragon, (all 63 metres of coloured beauty) and wandered through a Chinese Supermarket. They learnt all about traditional Chinese musical instruments, smelt the pungent Chinese medicinal herbs and wandered the streets of Chinatown soaking up the atmosphere and observing noodle and dumpling making.

We are all looking forward to learning more about ‘Our closest neighbours’ the countries of Asia and sampling Asian cuisine at Box Hill Central on the 26th of March.DSC_6539
