This week we were very lucky to have Heath Mckenzie visit during the Library incursion. On Thursday, students and teachers had the pleasure of meeting Heath, learning about his illustrations and even getting a crash course on how to draw! The students learnt how to translate 1000 words into their drawings.

In Writing, the students have been learning to structure a response. We have read books and watched some short videos and then students responded to these by describing the plot, characters, music, animation and giving their own opinion.

In Maths, we have continued to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages. There is a big focus about using the correct terminology when naming numbers. For example, 1/10 is named “one tenth”, which is equal to 0.1. They have also been creating towers to apply their understandings of how to calculate volume for 3D objects.

Thank you so much to all of the parents and carers that helped the students dress up for the Book Parade. It was fantastic to celebrate our passion for reading. The Big Bad Wolf, Old Grandma, Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs certainly had a great time with all of the characters at Year 5 Sport!
